Must See Bulgaria is a website of the Bulgarian photographer Julian Angelov. Here you can find images and videos ready to use for editorial illustration, books, multimedia projects, advertising spots, catalogues, promotional brochures, leaflets, websites, calendars, postcards, printed pictures, etc.
Currently, in the continuously updated Galleries there are thousands of images from Bulgaria, including landscapes, historical sites, Bulgarian folklore, pilgrimage places, customs and rituals, handicrafts, traditional Bulgarian life, portraits, nature and wildlife, macro photography, hotels and resorts, night shots, panoramic photos, and adventure.
The emphasis in Julian Angelov’s photographs is on the Bulgarian landscape, architecture, historical sites, places of worship, portraits, and folklore.
Most of the photographs in Must See Bulgaria were taken with Canon 5D and Canon 5D Mark II, while some of the older images – especially the black and white ones – were shot with Mamiya 7II and Nikon FM2.
The original images are available as RAW or gently manipulated high-resolution TIFF files, although on the pages of this site the photos are compressed and optimised to JPEG format.

The Author of the Photos in Must See Bulgaria
Julian Angelov is a travel photographer based in Sofia (Bulgaria). He studied photography at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, and holds a Master of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Indian Studies from Sofia University. Currently, Julian is a PhD researcher in Indian Studies at Sofia University.
He has been working as a travel photographer, journalist, magazine editor and entrepreneur since 1997. Julian has participated in numerous workshops and assignments. In 2003, he attended a workshop On Assignment with National Geographic in Tuscany (Italy), in 2010 participated in the Newari Summer School in Vienna University (Austria), and during the war in Kosovo in 1999 he was a Bulgarian newspaper correspondent in the refugee camps in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Mr. Angelov’s curiosity about the world led him to over 40 countries and territories in Europe, Asia and Africa, such as: Bali Island, Turkey, Morocco, the Holy Land, Macedonia, South Africa, Jordan, Singapore, Iran, India, Nepal and many others. From journeys in Nepal and India, Julian created a travel book featuring his own travelogue and over 130 photographs.
Julian’s articles and photographs have been published in various periodicals across United States, Europe and Asia, including Playboy (Slovenia), Cosmopolitan (Slovenia), National Geographic Explorer (Bulgaria), Fame (Thailand), Flavor (Thailand), Asia & Africa Today (Russia), Human Rights Dialogue (USA), Globe and Mail (Canada), Human Globaler Zufall (Germany), and many others.
He also has a wealth of experience in the editorial world, working as founder and deputy editor-in-chief of the first Bulgarian travel magazine – Odyssey, founder and photo-editor of Traveller Magazine, editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian edition of GEO Magazine, and editing director of The Explorer Bulgaria Magazine.
Julian Angelov received numerous photographic awards, including the 2006 Travel Photography Contest, organised by National Geographic Magazine (Bulgaria).
Recently, Julian works on specific photo projects in India and Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, as well as in his home country – Bulgaria, focusing on the ancient civilisations of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Armenians and the Islamic culture in Bulgaria. Julian is the founder of the Must See Bulgaria Collection, a series of multimedia CDs, DVDs, and photo albums highlighting the history, wildlife and traditions of Bulgaria. Julian also owns Bulgaria’s largest professional online travel photography gallery at www.travel-photo-gallery.com.
